Determined, intelligent, driven, focused, funny, energetic, outgoing, strong, motivated…… Those are some of the ways people describe Alison in all aspects of her life… Born and raised in Eugene, Oregon, she grew up running through the woods, waterskiing, playing soccer, softball, basketball and other organized sports. When she was 8 she began running local 5k road races, but it wasn’t until high school that she found her true love and passion in Track and Field. Alison ran the 800 meters in 2:06 and pole-vaulted 12’6 for her high school and on the Junior Olympic level, solidifying herself as one of the top female athletes in her region. Growing up in Track Town USA, Alison dreamed of running track for the University of Oregon and her hometown crowd. Unfortunately, Alison broke her back while pole-vaulting, ending her track and field career her freshman year in college. It was this event that led Alison to where she is today. She began training other athletes, helping them prepare for all levels of competition from middle school to professional athletics; giving them guidance with nutrition, cardiovascular, and strength training. While her passion will always be in athletics, she wanted to touch the lives of more people and began training more of the general population; helping people lose weight/gain weight, rehabilitate from injuries, overcome eating disorders through exercise, ensure healthy pregnancies, combat osteoporosis and other age related issues, and general health and fitness. Alison believes everyone is an athlete on some level and she infuses her many years of training as an elite athlete into each and every workout.
When Alison is not training both athletes and the general population clientele through private sessions, buddy sessions, group fitness classes, and virtual training, in Oakland and the greater the San Francisco bay area, Alison is busy managing her 25,000 sq ft personal training facility and wellness center, Truve. Truve, located at 420 14th St. in Oakland, Ca is celebrating 10 years of business and being awarded best gym in Oakland or Best Personal trainer for almost every year in business.

John Ives, Certified Personal Trainer

Originally from a small farm town in Michigan, I found my first love for movement through music—playing drums with my brother and friends. That passion for rhythm and control eventually led me to rock climbing before discovering my true calling, strength training. Once I was introduced to powerlifting-style resistance training, I never looked back.
Over the past 5 years I’ve coached more than 150 clients, ranging from beginners learning safe and efficient movement patterns to experienced lifters seeking to refine their technique. My approach is highly technical, emphasizing evidence-based strength training with a focus on proper form. I ensure clients develop precise, efficient movement patterns as a solid base for building strength. I prioritize the major compound lifts because they are the most effective for transforming body composition while building well-rounded strength and mobility.
But strength training is more than just lifting heavier weights—it’s about resilience, patience, and discipline. True progress comes from persistence and determination. That’s the long game- it leads to a deeper understanding of your potential.
My coaching philosophy is simple: master your basics and then make them harder. Progress doesn’t come from complexity; it comes from refining fundamentals and pushing yourself to do them better. Keep it simple and effective. Eat healthy, sleep well, stay active, and trust the process. My goal is to help you move better, get stronger, and live pain-free for the long haul. Strength is for everyone, and I’m here to help you build it.

Benn Madison, Certified Pilates Instructor & Personal Trainer

Benn Madison was born and raised in London, England before moving to New York for university. Studying Art History as a way to have the most expansive academic experience possible, Benn realized that their interests were as diverse as their imagination, and went on to have a successful and varied career in multiple industries. Benn spent the last couple of decades as an expert and consultant in the Specialty Coffee Industry traveling all over the world, before a TBI sustained in 2023 changed their life. For the better.
An avid fan of all kinds of movement almost from birth, they were an athlete at school, a pilates student from freshman year, yoga practitioner and instructor for many years, as well as regular gym goer for most of their life. But as happens with life - age, a sedentary lifestyle, and a lot of travel meant that they slowed down and filled out - to almost 310 lbs.
In 2023, just before their accident, on a hike through the redwoods that they barely started and couldn’t complete, they began to recognize that unless their life changed, they would stop being able to do the things they loved with the people they loved. That realization, and their determination to heal after the TBI led them on a journey on which you find them today.
It was at Truve that they started their 160 lb weight loss journey, found a sense of calm and peace, regained their love for themselves, their life, their joy of movement, their sense of freedom, and the energy they had forgotten they ever had. It was through relearning to love exploring exactly what their body could do, that allowed them to change their whole life.
A Balance Body certified instructor, Benn teaches Pilates reformer classes at Truve and loves to work with people of all types and fitness levels, ages, and abilities. Any mental, emotional, or physical struggles you may have, they see you, honor you, and want to be your biggest supporter, careful guide, and friendly face that helps bring you back to you. Every day.
The inspiration, joy, and sense of self that they found since recommitting to their fitness journey over the last couple of years, as well as the camaraderie, support, and fun they have found being a member of the Truve family - first as a client and now as a trainer - is something they want to pass onto all of their clients. Life is to be loved and lived, Benn’s vocation is to help people do just that.

Personal journey: Fitness has completely changed my life for the better. I started off as a runner who was always afraid to try weight lifting or anything that could make me “gain weight”—I’m sure many people understand this fear all too well. One day though, my friend who was incredibly fit and into HIIT talked me into going to a class at Sweat. I remember getting half way through that first class and thinking their was no way I was gonna make it through—but I did. Something happened in my mind after that, like “Wow, if I can do this, what else can I do” and all I wanted to do was push my body further and further. 10 years later and here I am, a personal trainer and group fitness coach who wants nothing more than to help others that started where I did make that first step towards changing their life. Seeing how fitness improves the body and mind. Seeing how far they can go when they didn’t think they had what it takes.

Bryan Jeong, Certified Personal Trainer

Hello! My name is Bryan, a proud Bay Area native. I am a certified personal trainer and nutrition coach through the National Academy of Sports Medicine, and I hold a bachelor's degree in Kinesiology from Cal State East Bay. My fitness journey began in high school, where I competed as a multisport athlete in volleyball, soccer, basketball, and track and field. Not only did I compete in these sports, but I have also coached soccer and basketball for over six years, ranging from recreational levels to high school varsity. My drive to become stronger and faster led me to the weight room, sparking my passion for weightlifting and igniting a desire to help others become their best physical selves. In addition to my sports background, I have experience in the rehabilitation field, having worked at a physical therapy clinic assisting physical therapists. This hands-on experience provided me with invaluable insights into the body and injury management as I worked directly with a diverse range of patients. I now apply this knowledge to both my personal fitness journey and my current clients, ensuring tailored and effective guidance for everyone. When I'm not in the gym or training clients, you can find me on the pickleball, basketball, or volleyball court, or exploring the great outdoors on a hike or run.
Kaitlyn Dykstra, Certified Personal Trainer

Hi there! I’m Kaitlyn. I grew up in the bay area and spent my childhood through early 20s training to be a professional ballerina. I had to have surgery that ended my dancing career so I moved to SF to figure out what my next steps were.
I spent years working at various start ups and started working with a trainer before my wedding. I got let go during a restructure and loved what my trainer did, so I decided to become a personal trainer myself!
My favorite aspects of working with people is partnering with them on their fitness journey and seeing the light bulb moments when something finally clicks in a session together.
When I’m not at the gym, I’m either taking care of dogs, cooking, in the pottery studio, or taking a course to further my knowledge, with biomechanics being my latest fascination!

Marley Murphy, Certified Personal Trainer

Hi! I’m Marley: ACE-Certified Personal Trainer, circus artist, and mom to a wonderful kiddo.
I love fitness because it is empowering! As a personal trainer, it is my joy and mission to help others discover their strength and build a genuine love of movement. Exercise can be challenging, but it shouldn’t suck. Let’s play out while we work out!
My love of movement comes from a childhood of gymnastics. As a kid, I was always moving. Exercise was natural. I trusted my body and didn’t think much about it at all.
Growing up, I slowly and unconsciously slipped into a sedentary lifestyle. Right out of high school, I started a full-time desk job and sat through night classes in the evenings. I quickly packed on weight and felt uncomfortable just existing in my body. My energy level and well-being suffered and my motivation to move disappeared. Instead of addressing this change, I poured myself into my work and my relationships and put my Self on the back burner. Years passed, I had a beautiful child, and my habits only got worse. My story is common, but I felt alone and hopeless all the while.
My turning point came when my daughter was six months old and discovering food. I felt her little eyes staring a hole through me whenever I stepped foot into the kitchen - like a spotlight following my every move. I knew what I should be doing, so I became determined to make better decisions and be a good role model for her. That is still my mission to this day.
My daughter is my “why,” the reason that I restructured my health habits and released over seventy pounds of extra weight in the last five years. More importantly, we make healthy, active choices together, and it brings more value to my life than I could’ve imagined.
If you’re ready to slide from the back burner to the driver seat of your own fitness journey- I can’t wait to hear from you! Let’s turn your “why” into a “how.” Today is the best day to start.
